LOVE LYF

Ever since downloading that interesting debut mp3 of “HEAVY POP” I’ve been pretty intrigued by WU LYF, which stands for WORLD UNITE LUCIFER YOUTH FOUNDATION, an anonymous four-piece from Manchester who’ve maintained a veil of mystery for the last year or so. Yet, hearing their recently dropped “L Y F” stirred in me something of an epiphany. An anthemic and adoring testament to perhaps one person, or maybe many, with the vocalist’s sincere cries of “Love you forever” resonating deep within me. Some swooping, crashing and colliding sounds seem to make the backdrop of what can only be described a celebration. It made me realise how much I love life.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QWxviSD79c]It’s true that there’s something celebratory about all of the WU LYF songs released thus far, the band creating soundscapes that never fail to ignite the imagination or intrigue. Screaming, often indecipherable vocals met with a now unmistakable crescendo of noise means that WU LYF will definitely make an impression on any first time listener. To say the band are very much stamped onto my consciousness is actually a bit of an understatement. I’m very much obsessed right now. Good thing then that their upcoming self-released debut album, GO TELL FIRE TO THE MOUNTAIN is set for release on the 13th of June this year. Colour me all shades of excited.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvtKSuy5mmo]There’s murmurings that the band’s presence (or lack of) so far has been a massive PR stunt, with the company four23 managing the band as well as owning the venue of WU LYF’s debut gigs. The thing is, why does this matter? It’s a slowly unravelling mystery as evidenced by the videos above and of course their anonymity has brought up their profile, but it’s not the only reason they’ve generated a lot of buzz. This lack of or cryptic distribution of information is something that a lot of bands have indulged in recently (see: The Weeknd & Just A Number 05272011) proving that in terms of the internet, less is more as well as showing that WU LYF aren’t just musically ahead of the crowd. And with what they have produced so far, it definitely matches the hype.

By way of evidential conclusion, below are six brilliant songs for you to download that I’ve collected from across the internet. Be sure to check out the bands enigmatic and arty, multi-layered, website and “Like” them on Facebook.
