REVIEW: run,WALK! – I Hope This All Works Out So I Can Stop Standing On Even Amounts Of Manholes In The Street.

I love run,WALK! and if you’ve followed this blog long enough you would know that already. And their latest release, this little lovely mini-album compromising 7 brilliant songs does not disappoint. It’s their second release on the prestigious underground label Holy Roar, they have released material by Gallows and Dananananakroyd in the past, and with their support the following of run,WALK! has flourished. Basically, this is run,WALK’s first PROPER release on Holy Roar, being part of a split vinyl and a compilation before don’t really compare to the build up that has been placed on this record. And oh boy does it deliver. As soon as it starts, blasting in with “Back of my Mind”, the mini-album is loud, brash and expectedly brilliant. And believe me, all you’ll have left is the back of your mind after listening to this short LP at ridiculously high volumes.

For fans already, a few songs will be familiar, the Voldemort-tribute, “He Who Must Not Be Named”, “Projections on the Wall” and the title track from the album have all had previous demo (and take that quite literally, they were extremely demo) versions posted online by the band, so for me, it was brilliant to hear these new, lovingly produced recordings. For me the highlight is N.B.Y., which is now my favourite track of theirs to date. It effectively bridges the middle ground between the fast-paced hardcore songs and the slower, mellower more indie sounding songs, and as lead singer Matt said recently in interview “we’re too hardcore for indie fans and too indie for hardcore fans,” a quote this song especially reflects. run,WALK! are that middle ground, one which should be embraced more in bands.

In conclusion, I preach and implore you to buy this album, ’cause frankly, it could save you from a hideous fate of listening to bland, uninteresting music, and the cd’s only £6 so it’s a blaaaady good bargain. Go HERE to pre-order.

Download and listen to “Back of My Mind” whilst you await the 15th March release.
