HorrorshowPodcast #14 – WHO IS JOHN GALT?
In the latest podcast, uploaded a couple of days ago, I took inspiration from the Ayn Rand novel “Atlas Shrugged”. First off, I apologize for the delay between this being posted and it being uploaded onto the itunes page. I thought it fitting to wait until I finished the book before I wrote like this and whilst I’ve been moving into University, I haven’t had all the time in the world to read those last hundred pages and write about it. Secondly, yes, I know Atlas Shrugged/Objectivism is riding some massive wave of “popularity” thanks to things like the Tea Party movement and yes of course it is also a load of bullshit. Well not entirely, but the uncompromising, utterly selfish, capitalist and conservative agenda that isn’t open to compromise does not make for better people. I can understand Rand’s argument, but just don’t agree fully with it. Anyway, all the money making and power made me link it a lot to Kanye West’s recent single Power. I then picked out a few other hip hop songs, with similar, uncompromising aspirations, sprinkled in some electro and bam I had a mixtape in front of me! Ok, so hip hop isn’t the first thing you associate with this kind of book, set in the 1950s and populated by an predominantly white cast of characters, which hints at some kind of supremacist viewpoint. Anyway, enjoy the Podcast!
