REVIEW: run,WALK! – PEEKAY EP
If you haven’t before been exposed to run,WALK!, the intensity of this new, free to download, EP will be the closest you can get to their ferocious live set without seeing them at a gig. 3 songs that clock in just over 6 minutes in total length. In what seems an effort to hone their blisteringly fast brand of indie-infused hardcore the band sound like they have stepped it up a considerable notch since their mini-album I Hope This All Works Out So I Can Stop Stepping On Even Amounts Of Manholes In The Street.
Whereas that album had songs like “Back of My Mind” and “He Who Must Not Be Named” amongst the intensely hardcore elements, that juxtaposed quite strongly against the calmer, more serene qualities of “N.B.Y” and the titular track, all three songs on PEEKAY are intense. Which is in no way a bad thing, as they already had their limited-run, brilliant, but considerably relaxed Intrumental EP released earlier this year. PEEKAY is it’s antithesis embodied.
Much like the war-cry-inspiring drumming of the titular track, PEEKAY is completely unrelenting and don’t expect run,WALK! to hold your hand throughout, more like chop it off. This intensity is inspiring, especially with the strained vocals, distorted, effects-laden bass and frenzied drumming, all hallmarks of their live act, manifesting themselves so strongly on this collection of songs.
