geotheory – gran turismo (prologe)
anyone coming out of the gate repping the classic playstation series gran turismo, and its soundtrack, will instantly get props from me, and the jazz-influenced 18 year old producer geotheory has done just that. creating a piece that sounds as one with the game as it does with contemporary jazz sounds, it’s a gentle fusing of elements that speaks volumes of the influence of game composers such as masahiro andoh on today’s musicians who grew up playing these games. geotheroy nods to the often scintillating and boundary (as well as hardware) pushing sounds, whilst retaining something closer to a chilled out version of flying lotus – the euphoric rush towards the latter third of the song also reminding me of that euphoric, victorious feeling when you pip your computer opponent to the finish line.
