I haven’t wrote about anything to do with Kanye for a while, and the release of this new video is sure to turn a few heads. Nearly 5 million views already. It is pretty. Astoundingly pretty, containing brilliant imagery and probably a plethora of hidden messages I am not fussed to decipher (Black Jesus?).
It’s a short 1:42 clip, surprising consider the hype that surrounded the video, namely from Kanye’s twitter feed, but nonetheless it does justice to the aspirations that he is placing on himself for the album. The Classical style, Kanye’s central pose within the frame itself, all build into something that aims to and succeeds in transcending the typicality and perhaps predictability of music videos. God, I’m hyping this up too.
Also, I’m really loving the art style that he seems to be exploring with the single and I assume further more will be the album artwork. The image reminds me strongly of Roman Polanski’s old Macbeth film, and do you think Kanye is hinting at some kind of dethroning? of Jay Z? of Himself? Anyway, whatever it means, it’s brilliant, and it’s by the artist George Condo who, judging by his other stuff is really rather fucking good.
A bit different from his humble-themed beginnings.
