Cover versions are, more often than not, brilliant reworkings of songs or totally skewed perspectives on a track that make you look at it in a different way. Here I’ve collated my five favourite covers released this year. From the smokey-laden vocals of Damon Albarn covering The xx to Diplo & Switch’s inspired Major Lazer take on Beyonce’s mega hit “Halo”, there have been some intensely good covers this year and as ever, it is always interesting to hear artists dissect and reassemble songs.
