THE BAY + EROL ALKAN’S REWORK

So Metronomy’s The English Riviera is one of this year’s best albums and it’s next single, “The Bay” not only the best song on said album, but probably the best song that Joseph Mount and his cohorts have ever written. I’ve been addicted to it’s silky groove and funky slap-bass for a while, and the continual teasings of this extended remix from Erol Alkan left me a little on-edge. Imagine my delight when the full version surfaced recently, across the web, and lived up to the expectations set before it. Instead of deconstructing the song too much, Alkan takes the individual elements and builds an extension that doesn’t over-step the mark or make it boring, he’s brought the track to a complimentary and gratifying reinvention.
