As he did with Discovery, and of course, Vampire Weekend before that, Rostam Batmanglij has produced a perfect slice of left-leaning, world-music inspired indie pop. The focus may have shifted onto the eastern side of the world this time round, but you still sense some kind of common familiarity throughout. It’s the kind of sound you’ll think has always been there, just one you hadn’t really noticed.
