I CARE BECAUSE YOU DON’T

The first thing I noticed about Sarp Yilmaz’s “I Care Because You Don’t” EP was the exchange of a drum machine hi-hat for a ride symbol on “My People”. There are various examples similar to this, with “Blue”‘ introducing itself with crowded party murmurs and smooth jazz guitar shimmers. The whole record has this organic sound, it’s a house record on paper, but the use of percussion, guitar, pianos and ambience create something that is relaxed and yet has a beat prominent enough to dance to. It really feels as if Sarp Yilmaz has taken an array of jazz, hip hop, dance, and soul influences and used them all to create this sweet sounding EP.
