been a while since i last listened to costa rican lo-fi maestros las robertas, but new track “marlene”, which was actually recorded in 2012, is a beacon of powerful, grungey delight. whilst chugging riffs, not that far removed from the men’s recent output, jar against an enticingly ethereal vocal, you can’t help but become wrapped up in the song’s textured immediacy. a veritable blast from the past.
