elliott smith – no confidence man

felt like a bit of an anorak after I bought the Heaven Adores You soundtrack, a further step down a “completist” elliott smith route, so was quietly astounded when suicide squeeze announced a repress of this 1994 split single that I was only vaguely aware of beforehand… safe to say, “no confidence man” is classic elliott, pared down and sombre shuffling and oblique lyrics: “He gave me nothing but grief / And some bullshit story only I would believe / I’ve heard quite enough”.
